MobStac make your blog mobile friendly

MobStac B! is a free service to turn your blog into a mobile-friendly site. It takes your blog’s feed URL and convert it to a mobile site which is compatible to almost ANY mobile devices, regardless smartphone or feature phone.

I am one of the closed beta member of MobStac B! (B for Blog). The setup is extremely easy. Simply submit blog URL and customize the mobile site (title, header image, tagline) and you are done!

MobStac B! not only supports almost any blogging platform (as long as your have a blog feed), also has a WordPress plugin for native integration.
You can see the mobile version of LiewCF.com when you visit using mobile devices, or goto http://m.liewcf.com (yes, CNAME subdomain supported!).

LiewCF.com

The mobile site design is a bit dull but it works. The page loading speed is fast, images are automatically resized and optimized. There are Twitter share and Facebook share icon on each mobile post. But the Twitter share link (Tweetmeme) is not working.

Want to make money on your mobile site? MobStac B! allows you to add your AdSense publisher ID to display advertisements on your mobile site. Again, I don’t get it to display payable ads (only Google Public Service Ads).

MobStac B! account has a simple traffic analytics showing you the daily mobile traffic, average views per day and total mobile site views.

MobStac B! is now Public Beta. Sign up now!

HELP! Need Affordable Fully Managed Hosting with Enterprise-Security and DDoS Protection!

Posted: 04 Oct 2010 05:13 AM PDT

server under attack

I told you that ">my server was under malicious traffic attacks. The server is more stable now but still can see load spikes now and then, even though they didn’t bring down the server.

From the above graph, you can see the server load of past 2 weeks. The highest load was around 140! Imagine that kind of load on a 8 cores sever! Impossible to handle. What we know is that the attacker use cloud computing like Amazon EC2 to launch the attacks.

Is it “Cloud-based DDoS”? The dark side of cloud computing…

So, what can a home-based blogger like me do to fight against the massive attacks? The software based protection such as firewall, (D)Dos-Deflate, etc have been installed. They helped a bit but not the solution.

I’ll need a fully managed web hosting with high security and DDoS protection at affordable (not “cheap”, I understand the setup is expensive) price tag…

Am I asking too much?

Firehost secure hosting?

Secure HostingFor your information, many web hosting providers do NOT accept sites that receive DDoS attacks in their network.

So far, I only found Firehost fulfilled the requirements. It is a cloud hosting with Enterprise-security. Plus, they know WordPress, the blogging platform I am using.

Starting at USD$200 per month, with the similar setup, I will have to pay more (USD$400+/month) for Firehost secure hosting if I would want to migrate over.

Yes, I’ll migrate that if the attacks continues and do not let my site off…

Do you know other hosting providers offer the similar protection like Firehost? Please tell me in comment.

P.S. This is NOT a paid post. Just sharing the information I found during my site’s down time.

Decision Making: Maxis iPhone 4 vs DiGi iPhone 4 in 10 Seconds

Posted: 03 Oct 2010 09:25 PM PDT

MALAYSIA: Apple iPhone 4 has been launched in Malaysia. Got yours yet? Or, you are thinking which telco’s offer is better, Maxis iPhone 4 or DiGi iPhone 4?

Confused by the various numbers and calculations in the iPhone 4 plans? Worry not!

Here I create a simple, straightforward, no nonsense, no calculation decision chart to help you make the right decision in 10 seconds!

iphone-4-maxis-digi-chart.png

In a nutshell,

  • If you do not want to tie with contract and/or want to stick with non-maxis-nor-digi-telco, get iPhone 4 from Singapore.
  • If you are in DiGi 3G coverage and 24 months is OK for you, then DiGi iPhone 4 plans offer the greatest value.
  • If you wants wider 3G coverage and shorter contract period, then go for Maxis iPhone 4.

Note: iPhone 4 is only a brick if it has no Internet connection (read: 3G).

It’s that simple! Tell me what do you think. :)

Update: Thanks for the feedback. Here are some additional information you should take note of:

  • iPhone 4 warranty is not “International”. If you buy in Singapore, you have to go back Singapore to claim warranty.
  • Maxis offer 24 months warranty if you sign up for 24 months iPhone 4 contract.
  • Some friends bought their contract-free-iPhone-4 with Maxis Hotlink prepaid from Apple autorized shops. Check it out!
