The Blog Comment Form from Hell, Seriously

I was about to write a comment for a blog post but I gave up the idea after saw the comment form. It takes up to 9 steps to submit a simple message!

The “location” field is unnecessary. Why do you need to know the location of a commenter? Your visitor would simply fill up anything. You would not get useful data for field. If you want to know, you can record commenter’s location using a backend geo-location script.

“Remember my information” is redundant. Your visitor’s browser could save the form data. Okay, perhaps if I tick that, then next time I won’t need to fill up personal info in comment form again. But, without further information, I am still skeptical to tick the “Remember my information” checkbox.

Personally, I hate captcha box. It really blocks the potential visitors who wanted to add their little comments.

What’s a good comment form?

A good comment form should be kept as simple as possible. It should be personalized to visitor. A good example is the Disqus comment form.

It allows visitor to sign in their social site account (twitter, facebook) to comment. Once sign in, visitor only need to type comment and post. No more form filling.

It is better. Do you agree?
