Maxis WiFi modem and Apple iPad

Maxis WiFi modem and Apple iPad

Last November, I has been selected to join Maxis 10 Reviewers Programme for Nokia N8 smartphone. Now, I have been selected (again!) to review Maxis WiFi Modem and Apple iPad!

Last week I received a call from Maxis about the Maxis 10 reviewers program for Maxis WiFi modem and Apple iPad. It surprised me. I didn’t know they have the review program for Maxis WiFi modem and iPad.

Few other selected Malaysian bloggers and I met at the Maxis briefing session in Maxis Tower. Each of us were loaned a Maxis WiFi modem (Huawei E5832) and a brand new Apple iPad 3G + WiFi (16GB). (no, not iPad 2 :P )

In order to use the WiFi modem and try Maxis wireless broadband service, each of us were given 2 months complimentary wireless broadband access (3.5GB monthly quota, worth RM70/month)

We are free to write whatever we like (honest reviews), but we are required to write 6 or more blog posts on the two products, with at least two posts with their suggested titles.

If you are wondering… No, we don’t get paid. Though, according to the past Maxis 10 programmes, most reviewers got to keep the loaned devices.

I am existing iPad 3G (32GB) owner and Maxis wireless broadband subscriber. What’s new to me this time is the WiFi modem. It allows you to share 3G broadband by creating a personal WiFi hotspot that support up to 5 devices. I have wanted to test it for a long time!

Stay tuned for my articles in the following week on iPad, WiFi modem (MiFi), and the Maxis wireless broadband.

If you have any questions related to the products, tell me in the comment below. I shall answer you.

WordPressWordPress 3.1 update included many bug fixes and new features such as admin bar, post formats, internal linking, etc.

WordPress 3.1 is now available for free download. The code name “Reinhardt” is named in honor of the jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt. Existing WordPress user can update from within the WordPress dashboard.WordPress 3.1 is a great update from previous WordPress version, there are many features and bug fixes. Here are some of the WordPress 3.1 noticeable new features (and how to enable them):

Wordpress 3 1 interface

1. Blue colour admin scheme

Say “bye-bye” to gray color admin panel. The admin color scheme is located under Users -> Your Profile. (took me half hour to find out!)

Admin bar

Already familiar by WordPress.com users, the admin bar allows quick access to user’s profile, add new post, moderate comments, and change blog design.

2. Internal linking

Wordpress 3 1 internal linking

Now it is easier to link to your previous posts when you are editing a new post. The insert link window added previous post search for easy linking.

3. Post formats

Wordpress post formats

WordPress 3.1 is the 1st version that officially build-in support for different post formats, like the already popular Tumblr micro-blog. The support posts types are: aside, gallery, link, image, quote, status, video, audio, and chat. Post formats needs to be enabled in your theme.

“With the 3.1 release, WordPress is more of a CMS than ever before. The only limit to what you can build is your imagination.” — Matt Mullenweg, founding developer of WordPress.

My two cents

The user interface changes do not mean too much to me, I do not write blog posts online (I use a desktop blog editor). Instead, I care more about the bug fixes and performance improvements.

I like the post formats feature. It would bring people back to their blogs from Twitter and other micro-blogging platforms. Currently, I am using Posterous for my private personal blog. I might migrate it to WordPress if it got enough mobile support.

Have you upgrade to WordPress 3.1? What’s the feature you like most?
