tweetie 2 logoJust few hours after the announcement of Twitter app for BlackBerry, Twitter also announced their acquisition of Tweetie, the popular twitter client for iPhone.

Tweetie (won 2009 Apple Design Award) will be renamed “Twitter for iPhone” and made free (currently USD$2.99) in the iTunes AppStore in the coming weeks.

The Tweetie developer, Loren Brichter, will be hired as a key member of Twitter mobile team and help Twitter in the development of “Twitter for iPad”.

My two cents

Tweetie is a great twitter client for iPhone, which I’m currently using too. I’m glad that Twitter acquired the app and make it free. A good news for all iPhone users!

However, I also hope that the acquisition would not terminate the development of “Tweetie for Mac”, another project of Loren Brichter.

Tweetie for Mac has not been updated for a long time. I afraid, after working with Twitter, Loren might not have anymore spare time to update the software.

It seems like Twitter is actively entering Twitter client market, which I think is a must. Personally, I don’t visit Twitter website to tweet. I only tweet on my twitter client, on iPhone or Mac.

So, first is Twitter for BlackBerry, then Twitter for iPhone. What’s next? Twitter for Android? Twitter for Symbian (Nokia)?

The Twitter for BlackBerry app has been launched as free download for all BlackBerry users. Read on for is features and how to download it free.

Twitter for BlackBerry smartphones has been available in a limited preview since February and the version that is launched includes new features that were added based on feedback from that preview.

Push Notifications for Direct Messages — deliver direct Twitter messages to user through the BlackBerry Push technology.

Timeline Support — you can view the timeline of the Twitter users you are following, the Tweets posted by the users and the replies to the user.

Following & Followers — you can view a list of the Twitter users who they are currently following or who are currently following them.

Tweeting and Re-Tweeting — Post, delete, re-tweet, reply, direct messages. You can also send a tweet to various other options including Facebook, Email, PIN, SMS, MMS, and BlackBerry Messenger.

Keyword, User, and Proximity Search — you can saerch for a keyword, a user, or tweets within a location.Tweet Photos — you can post a photo from within the Twitter app, BlackBerry camera, or media card. You can also view photos in the Twitter stream.

Trending Topics — you can view a list of Twitter top 10 trending topics and click on a topic to bring up a Timeline.

Profile Editing — You can edit your Twitter profile or change profile image from the application.

Seamless integration into core BlackBerry app — The Twitter for BlackBerry app is integrated completely into Media, browser, BlackBerry App World, and message list.
